Rivulus weberi - general informations

Hi@all!

I'm very proud to own two pairs of Rivulus weberi - I got them at the meeting
in Augsburg - unfurtunally, I had to go back to my styroporbox, to sell my own fish and afterwards the young man who sold them was gone. The only thing I knew from him ist: they are beautiful and they are easy.

I harvested big eggs - lots of them - most of the eggs are good, just a few (three or four) went fungus.
I put the eggs on peat for 4-5 days and then into a small box with water - 23°C

The informations about Rivulus in general througout the www is just poor.
The informations about R. weberi - hmm - there is not really much to find.

My questions: The first eggs are black, I see the young fish inside, but the fish inside the eggs does not move yet.
Should I try to help them out of the eggs? I can see the eyes. Do they move inside? I'm kind of afraid,
that the first embryo died inside of the egg.

Which Temperature is best for hatching and raising - the two pairs have 24-25°C at the day, there is no heater in, the light is the "heater".

Ah: when will I see my fish? I seldom see more than two at one time, this guys are very shy and they don't want to leave the "bush" when I'm watching. Not even for food. I have to watch from a big distance to see them. Would they be not so shy, if I put an other species inside? Any experiences?

Hi Steven,

na, I'll try to get conatact to the man who sold me the fish. He told me, his friend catched this species in Panama, but he did not tell me who his friend is.
The code is "PAN 2006/28" - I don't know, if my fish are F1, F2 or wild-cought fish ...but: I'll try to reach the seller.

Hi Leo.
Probably that specie was collected by Ken Normandin AKA ( Florida) USA.
 He was collecting in Panama in 2006 and he gave me fish from that expedition.
 If you have  problems with the eggs of rivulus, you can try the next:
 Put  the eggs inside a small plastic box ( like old photograph, do you understand me?)
 You must put that box inside your pocket one , two, three days... You must check the eggs every day. Sometimes it help to egg.

Hallo Leo !

Es ist keine gute Idee, dass du verschiedene Rivulusarten zusammen im gleichen Aquarium hälst.
Es gibt Ausnahmen: als die Riv fuscolinieatus die richtige Grösse hatten,  hab ich sie mit einem Männchen Riv.beniesis und jetzt sind sie die besten Freunde .
Mit anderen Rivulusarten war es unmöglich.
Der Wasserstand sollte ca. 5 cm sein.

No es buena idea juntar especies de rivulus.
Hay algunas expeciones.
Cuando  mis Riv.fuscolineatus eran tan grandes  para que mi macho de Riv beniensis no los comiera los junte y ahora son los mejores amigos. En otras especies fue imposible.
La columna de agua 5 cm para rivulus estara bien.

ich verstehe nicht ganz: ich habe nicht zwei Arten im Becken, die weberi sind meine einzigen Rivulus (im Moment).
Meine Fragen bezogen sich auf Temperatur und die Schlupfhilfe.

my questions about that fish are: is the Temperature right - and: do they need help in hatching.

Jose,

i got contact to the man, who sold me this fish. He told me, he got this strain about 3 years ago from
Schonewille jun/The Netherlands.
He bred them in the extensive way: there where alwys a few fry behind the filter-foam.
So I decided to relax: I'm quite sure, the sucess will come easier, if I do not too much.
(Maybe I'm too nervous about it?)
I'll stick some eggs in peat and forget them for three weeks,
the egg-harvest from tomorrow I'll put into some water and fortget the box too.  .
Lets see if there will apear some fry...I'll tell you.

Hi Leo.
Don´t worry! You must  be relaxer. The weberi is a easy rivulus, they will grew without problems. And the parents live with their fries together.It´s easy, big and beautiful fish.
Let me know if you have problems with them.At this moment I have a good pair.

Ahoi Rivulus-Friends,

I have now about 10-12 fry swimming, nice and fast fry, I'm looking forward to this group of fish, hoping the young won't be that shy, if they grow up at my place.

...it's me again,

I have a suspiction, that this guys are nocturnal.

When I look into the tank with my young fish - at daytime they are all hiding under leaves, behind the wood, at the bottom of the tank. I came home late last night and took a short look in my fishroom and found all the young weberi in free water, active swimming, never saw this on daytime.
They did not intterrupt their behavior, when I came with my light, I found it very interesting.

Other fish in my room where "sleeping" - you know what I mean, the weberi where active and very
vivid....

Hi Leo.
The weberi are a little timid. They don´t like a lot of light in the tank. They like big mops and big tanks. Sometimes the weberi can be aggressive with themselves. But when they are young fish, you can see all the time. Only when they are adults.
